Hi I took David to see my health visitor just before he was 2, at first she was a bit offhand because apparently the night before there had been a programme about autism and she said I knew this was going to happen. After being in her room a while she noticed he had no interest in the toys which she said was a bit unusual. She referred him to a specialist paediatrician in Ealing who I saw 2 months later, she virtually said there and then David was autistic after a few weeks of seeing different specialists he was officially diagnosed. It was all pretty quick really. I have got to say I know a lot of people have trouble but I have had no complaints (so far!!) about the help and advice I have received for David. xx

Hiya, well it took me virtually 7 years to get an autism dx for Paul as he has other issues,it was so hard because i knew he had autism since he was 2.After years of fighting we eventually got the right dx.

my son had his development check at 2 yrs old and health visitor said he wasnt speaking enough.he was also screaming and trying to get out of the room.autism wasnt mentioned altho i came away from the appt feeling very unsettled.it was only when he started preschool at 3 that staff said they had concerns and then it snowballed from there.i feel guilty cos i didnt realise-he is my only child.we have been very lucky as i have not had to fight for years to get a dx and our paed is lovely.we are hoping to have everything in place for when he starts school in sept.
